Cause: founded in 1982, operates as a nonprofit retail organization that accepts donated items on behalf of over 200 Bay Area charities, sells them in store, and then disburses the proceeds to those partner organizations. When you donate items, you have the option to choose which local charity will benefit.
Accepts Donations: Items should be in clean and sellable condition. Some items are subject to refusal. If we have to throw it away, it’s an expense to us and the charities we serve.
Donation Drop-Off Hours: Daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (subject to holiday changes)
Donation Entrance: is located on Sycamore Alley, which runs parallel to 18th Street and intersects Mission and Valencia Streets. It’s on the south side of the building.
Furniture Pickup Service
Available by appointment: For larger furniture donations, they offer a FREE pickup service in San Francisco, available Sunday through Thursday

Pickup guidelines:
Ideally have at least two large pieces, or a smaller item of high value

Cause: helps empower homeless and low-income families to find within themselves the strength and confidence they need to transform their lives.

This month, I traveled to Las Vegas to work on a project that was as meaningful as it was memorable. My client had something truly special: boxes and albums filled with photographs spanning her entire family history. But like many families, these precious memories were stored away in closets and boxes, unseen in daily life.
Our shared vision was to bring this treasure trove of history to life in two powerful ways:
A digital family album – Every photo would be safely scanned, curated, and organized online so her family could access their story anywhere, anytime. This meant not only preserving delicate originals but also creating a resource future generations could treasure.
A family wall of photos – Together, we designed a wall display that captured the essence of her family across the decades, turning memories that once lived in boxes into a daily source of joy, pride, and connection.
Sorting through her entire family’s visual history was both practical and deeply moving. As we worked, stories came alive — weddings, graduations, everyday kitchen table moments. Each chosen photo represented a thread in the tapestry of her family’s journey.
The result was transformative: an organized, accessible digital archive paired with a beautiful home display that now radiates love and legacy. What was once overwhelming and hidden away is now something her whole family can enjoy and pass down for generations.
Projects like this remind me that organizing isn’t just about order — it’s about honoring stories, creating connection, and keeping memories alive.

Walmart Vision Centers: Lions Clubs International has a partnership with the Walmart Corporation. You can deposit your eyeglasses at any participating Walmart Vision Center.
Local Lions clubs: Some local Lions clubs collect eyeglasses. To contact a Lions club in your community to find out if they collect eyeglasses, please use the Club Locator to find a local club near your community. Once you’ve located a club, click the envelop icon to send a message to the club.
Lions Eyeglasses Recycling Centers (LERC): If you are unable to find a local Walmart or Lions club that accepts eyeglasses donations, you can mail your eyeglasses or unopened contact lenses to the nearest LERC. You can find your nearest LERC here.
Hearing Aids: used hearing aids of any age, brand or model can do so by visiting the Hearing Charities of America donations page. There, you can reach out with questions or complete the online donation form to start the donation process.

Batteries contain lead and toxic heavy metals. It is illegal in California to dispose of batteries in curbside carts and bins.
If you live in a single-family home, place all small household batteries in a clear, sealed bag and set them on top of your blue recycling cart lid each week on your normal service day. The recycling driver will collect batteries separately. If you notice your driver is not collecting your batteries, please call RecycleSmart at 925-906-1801 or email authority@recyclesmart.org to let us know. Single-family homes can also set batteries out on the bi-annual Reuse Day, including auto batteries. Auto batteries are only accepted on the Reuse Day, not weekly. All residents can also use the free drop-off retail partners listed below and take batteries to Central San’s HHW Facility in Martinez.

It is illegal to dispose of electronics in the garbage. Your unwanted and obsolete electronic equipment and appliances are one of the fastest growing waste streams. When discarded in landfills, these items not only lock up components that contain valuable and reusable natural resources, but they also contain toxic chemicals that can contaminate soil and groundwater.
Many auto service shops, auto parts stores and oil change services accept used motor oil and oil filters for recycling (call ahead).
Treated Wood Waste
Where can I dispose of Treated Wood Waste (TWW) such as railroad ties and pressure treated wood?
TWW is considered a hazardous waste and must be disposed of properly. The following facilities are authorized by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board to accept TWW. Please contact the facility before taking TWW to them for disposal.
Improper management of discarded needles can pose a health risk to the public and waste workers. Dispose of used medical sharps in a red hard-plastic sharps container at one of these locations:

Instead of spending months to years to finish. I recommend scheduling intentional time. For example, setting aside time to organize 1x a week over the next month.
